Know your total

Cheapest defensive driving school in AZ? Compare the total, not the headline.

Arizona sets a state fee and a surcharge. Your court adds its own diversion fee. Every school collects all three. The only number a school controls is its own fee. A processing fee added after a low headline price is part of that fee. Ours is $39.95, filed as one flat price with nothing added at checkout.

Who's eligible — the honest checklist

You're eligible if…

  • Your citation is an eligible civil moving violation — a speeding ticket, a red light, a stop sign, and most other moving tickets.
  • You haven't taken a defensive driving course for a violation in the last 12 months (counted by violation date).
  • You haven't already paid the ticket to the court.
  • You can finish at least 7 days before your court date.

The course can't help if…

  • The violation involved a serious injury or fatality.
  • You hold a CDL and the ticket was in a commercial vehicle.
  • You've already used the diversion option within 12 months.
Not sure? Email support@highwaytrafficschool.com and a real person will check your citation with you before you pay anything — or text or call 1-888-406-1726, Mon–Sat, 7am–7pm PT. Or check it yourself: the full eligible-violations guide. Holding a criminal speeding charge? That one is the single exception to the card above — a path exists, with the presiding judge’s permission. And if what arrived was an MVD letter rather than a court citation, that is Traffic Survival School, which no online course can satisfy.

Arizona defensive driving school FAQ

Am I eligible to take defensive driving for my ticket?

Four checks. Your citation is an eligible civil moving violation. You have not taken a defensive driving course for a ticket in the past 12 months. The 12 months run from one violation date to the next. You have not paid the ticket. And no one was seriously hurt or killed. CDL holders may attend only for a ticket they got in a personal vehicle, not a commercial one.

Is this the online class for a speeding ticket?

Yes. This is an online driving school for an Arizona ticket. An ordinary Arizona speeding ticket (ARS 28-701) is a civil moving violation. For an eligible one, the court must let you take this class. It is the same 4-hour course on this page. Finish at least 7 days before your court date. When you complete it, state law (ARS 28-3394) requires the court to dismiss the citation. Non-CDL drivers get no points. One thing to know: going more than 20 mph over the limit can be charged as criminal speeding. That is a crime (a class 3 misdemeanor), not a civil ticket. It needs the presiding judge's permission first.

Is Highway Traffic School an approved defensive driving school in AZ?

Yes. Highway Traffic School is certified by the Arizona Supreme Court as school #452. That certification is what lets a court accept the course for diversion. You can check any school against the Supreme Court list before you pay — ours is there under school #452.

Is there a defensive driving class near me in Arizona?

You don't need one nearby. The course is online and Arizona Supreme Court certified, so it works from anywhere in Arizona — Phoenix, Tucson, Mesa, Chandler, Scottsdale, Glendale, Gilbert or any other city — for an eligible ticket from any Arizona court.

Will my ticket actually be dismissed?

Yes, if it is an eligible citation. That is how Arizona's diversion program works. Finish the course by your deadline and the court dismisses the ticket. You pay no fine on that violation and get no points. For non-CDL drivers, nothing goes on your driving record.

What's my deadline?

You must complete the course at least 7 days before your court date. We file your completion electronically within 48 hours. Is your date close? Call your court about an extension. Then email support@highwaytrafficschool.com and we'll get you through in time — or text or call 1-888-406-1726, Mon–Sat, 7am–7pm PT.

What will it cost me in total?

$39.95 to us — course, audio, certificate, and court filing, with a $0.00 processing fee. Arizona adds a state fee and surcharge (typically $24.00 and $45.00). Your court adds its own diversion fee. Use the calculator on this page for your court's exact total. Nothing is added at checkout.

What if I'm not eligible?

You find out before you pay. At checkout we send your driver's license number, date of birth and violation date to the Arizona Supreme Court's defensive driving records. If you took a course for another ticket in the past 12 months, checkout stops and shows the date you're eligible again. Your card is never charged. If the state's system is down, you can still sign up, and we check before your course opens. If that check says you're not eligible, we refund everything you paid.

What's the Video Course?

An optional $9.99 upgrade that presents the same state-approved course as a produced video — watch instead of read. The standard course is complete without it.

Why do you charge one price when others advertise less?

Arizona schools file every fee with the Supreme Court's program — including the processing fees some add after the advertised number. We filed one flat price instead: $39.95 is everything. The checkout total matches this page, to the penny.
