Adults 18+ take the exam in person under Florida law.
The exam, by the numbers
What is on the Florida permit test?
A parent or legal guardian stays with you for the entire online exam. That’s Florida’s rule for testing at home.
Florida requires the signed form when you pick up the permit. The parent signs it after the exam, in front of a notary or a driver license examiner. The form, field by field. Florida already has your results — nothing else to carry.
That’s what the included Florida Driver’s Handbook, 100 practice questions, and road-sign flashcards are for.

Permit test, answered
Permit test online FAQ
Can you take the permit test online?
In Florida, yes, if you're 14½ to 17. You take the official 50-question Class E Knowledge Exam at home. A parent or legal guardian stays with you the whole time. We're an authorized third party administrator for the exam. Florida adults 18 and older test in person at a driver license or tax collector office. Other states set their own rules. Some offer an at-home test for some ages, and some test only in person. Check your state's licensing agency before you pay any site.
Is the online permit test the real exam or a practice test?
The real one — the same 50-question State of Florida exam given at the license office. Pass it online and Florida knows instantly. Results are filed electronically with FLHSMV the moment you finish. (Our free 20-question practice test is clearly labeled what it is — practice.)
What score do I need to pass, and how long do I get?
80% — 40 of 50 questions — within 60 minutes. Your score appears right away. A passing result is filed with FLHSMV on the spot, so there's no waiting and nothing to mail.
How many attempts do I get?
Three online attempts, all included in the $44.95 price — no re-test fees. That's the part other providers tend to charge for twice. If you don't pass after your third online attempt, Florida's rules require finishing the exam in person at a driver license or tax collector office.
How does parent proctoring work?
Two requirements, and it's worth knowing they're separate. During the exam, a parent or legal guardian supervises the entire online session. Afterward, Florida requires a Parent Proctoring Form when you pick up the permit at the office. It's a signed legal document — not just "a parent watched." The parent signs it after the exam, in front of a notary or a driver license examiner (FLHSMV Form 71144). Signing at the office counter works, because the examiner is there.
Do I need to take a course before the permit test?
For Florida teens, yes. The 6-hour DETS (Driver Education and Traffic Safety) course is required before applying for a learner's license. So the natural order is course first, exam second, office visit third. The DETS + exam bundle covers both in one purchase. Adults 18+ take the 4-hour TLSAE course as their first-license requirement — and test in person.
What happens after I pass?
Florida already has your results — they were filed electronically when you finished. Your office visit is the last step. Bring the Parent Proctoring Form, signed in front of a notary or a driver license examiner. Take a quick vision and hearing screening, and pay the state's license fee. Then walk out with the learner's permit. You must be at least 15 to apply for the permit itself, even though the course and exam can be done earlier.
Is there a free practice test?
Yes — 20 questions in the real exam's style, instant answers, no signup, unlimited tries. It's the honest way to gauge whether you're ready before paying for the real thing. The real exam is designed to be studied for. That's why the exam package includes the Florida Driver's Handbook, 100 practice questions, and road sign flashcards.
