Refund Policy

Last Updated:

At Highway Traffic School, your satisfaction matters to us. If you are ever unhappy with our service, please email, text, or call us first (text and phone Mon–Sat, 7am–7pm PT) — most issues can be resolved quickly. This Refund Policy sets out when refunds are available; it is part of our Terms of Use, and the terms below control.

How this document works. Each section begins with a short plain-English summary marked “In short.” Those summaries are for convenience only — the full text of each section controls.

Refund Eligibility at a Glance

A convenience summary only — the numbered sections below control.

Arizona state fees · Florida Class E Knowledge Exam Special rules apply See Section 8

1. Full Refunds

In short: Cancel within 30 days without ever opening the course and you get every penny back.

You will receive a 100% refund if you cancel your enrollment within thirty (30) calendar days of the date of purchase (including weekends and holidays) and you have not started the course — meaning the first course slide has never been viewed — and no certificate of completion has been generated.

2. Partial Refunds

In short: Started the course but changed your mind? Within 30 days, you get a refund minus a $10 administrative fee — as long as you haven’t completed it.

You will receive a refund of your purchase price minus a $10 administrative processing fee if you cancel within thirty (30) calendar days of the date of purchase and you have started but not completed the course (see Section 3) and no certificate of completion has been generated. The $10 fee is disclosed at checkout.

Never-started courses after 30 days. If you never started the course — the first course slide has never been viewed — you may cancel at any time before your course expires under Section 5 of the Terms of Use and receive a refund of your purchase price minus the $10 administrative processing fee.

3. When Is a Course “Completed”?

In short: Viewing the final curriculum slide of the last unit completes the course — even if the last quiz or the certificate hasn’t happened yet.

A course is completed once you have viewed the final curriculum slide of the last unit of the course. The course is considered completed at that point even if you have not finished the last quiz and regardless of whether a certificate of completion has been generated. Completed courses are not eligible for refunds.

4. When Refunds Are Not Available

In short: No refunds after 30 days, after completion, after your certificate exists, after the course expires, if you fail required exams or identity checks, or if the account broke the rules.

Except as expressly stated in this policy or required by applicable law, no refund is available in the following cases:

  • More than thirty (30) calendar days (including weekends and holidays) have elapsed since the date of purchase except as provided in Section 2 for never-started courses;
  • The course has been completed as defined in Section 3;
  • A certificate of completion has been generated, or your completion has been filed with a court or state agency;
  • The course has expired under Section 5 of the Terms of Use (180 days from purchase, or 30 days after your court date, whichever occurs first);
  • You did not pass the end-of-unit quizzes, final exam, or other in-course assessments within the allotted attempts described in the course guidelines;
  • You did not meet identity-validation requirements (such as biometric verification, security questions, or other required methods) under Section 4 of the Terms of Use;
  • We determine that the course was completed dishonestly — including assistance from or completion by another person — in violation of the student declaration in the Terms of Use;
  • The account violated any provision of the Terms of Use.

5. Add-On Services, State Fees, and Special Cases

In short: Third-party costs — state fees, court fees, driving records, expedited shipping — can’t be refunded once they’ve been incurred or processed. Bought the wrong course? We’ll transfer you instead. Our platform failure stopped you? Full refund.

Third-party and add-on items. State fees, court fees, record-retrieval fees, and similar pass-through charges are non-refundable once incurred. Expedited processing or shipping of certificates is non-refundable once the certificate of completion has been generated. Driving records are non-refundable once the record has been processed.

Wrong course purchased. If you purchased the wrong course (for example, the wrong state or course type) and have not completed it, contact us — we will transfer your enrollment to the correct course one time at no charge, collecting or refunding any price difference, instead of requiring cancellation and repurchase.

Technical failure. If a verified problem with our platform prevents you from accessing or completing your course and our support team cannot resolve it within a reasonable time, you may choose a full refund.

Duplicate purchases. Accidental duplicate enrollments are refunded in full at any time upon request.

6. How to Request a Refund

In short: Email us your name, order number, enrollment date, and reason. Approved refunds go back to your original payment method within 5–7 business days — your bank may take a few more days to post it.

To request a refund, email support@highwaytrafficschool.com (we reply 7 days a week) or call or text 1-888-406-1726 (Mon–Sat, 7am–7pm PT) with:

  • Your full name;
  • Your order number;
  • The date you enrolled in the course; and
  • The reason for the cancellation.

Eligible refunds are processed within five to seven (5–7) business days of an approved request, to the original payment method only. Your card issuer or bank may require additional time to post the credit to your account.

7. Disputed Charges and Chargebacks

In short: Talk to us before disputing a charge — a chargeback cancels your course and can invalidate a completion already filed with your court. Reinstatement means repaying the reversed amount plus a $25 fee.

Please contact us to resolve any billing concern before initiating a chargeback with your card issuer. If you initiate a chargeback or a payment fails to clear: (i) the associated purchase will be canceled; and (ii) any registration or completion that has already been filed with a court or state agency may be invalidated and/or reported to that court or agency as unpaid, which may affect the status of your case. We may provide supporting documentation to the card issuer in dispute of the chargeback as described in Section 9 of the Terms of Use. To reinstate a purchase after a chargeback, the reversed amount plus a $25 chargeback processing fee (disclosed at checkout) must be paid in full.

8. State and Course-Specific Provisions

In short: Two products have special rules: Arizona Defensive Driving (the state fees we collect for Arizona follow Arizona Supreme Court rules — non-refundable once you start, but refundable in three specific situations even after 30 days) and the Florida Class E Knowledge Exam (no partial refund once the exam is started). Every other course follows the general policy above exactly. And if your state’s rules are ever more generous than ours, your state’s rules win.

8.1 Your State’s Requirements Control

If the laws of your state, or the rules of the court or state agency governing your course, require refund terms more favorable to you than this policy, those requirements control.

8.2 Arizona Defensive Driving

State fees collected for Arizona. During registration we collect a state fee, state surcharge, and court diversion fee on behalf of the State of Arizona. Under Arizona Supreme Court regulations, the state fee, state surcharge, and court diversion fee are non-refundable once you begin your defensive driving course, except that they remain refundable — including after the 30-day window in Sections 1 and 2 — when:

  • you pre-paid for a defensive driving course but never began the course and did not contact us to reschedule for a future course;
  • the citing officer did not file the citation with a court, and you attended a defensive driving course for that citation; or
  • the court dismissed the citation on its own motion for problems not correctable under the court’s civil traffic rules.

When your Arizona course is “started.” Your Arizona course is considered started once the “Start Your Course” button has been clicked.

When your Arizona course is “completed.” Your Arizona course is considered complete once you have viewed the final curriculum slide of the last unit — even if you have not finished the last quiz, the participation or identity-verification slide, or the required evaluation, and regardless of whether a certificate of completion has been generated.

8.3 Florida Class E Knowledge Exam

This product is an exam, not a course. The exam is considered started once the “Start My Permit Exam” button has been clicked. You will receive a 100% refund if you cancel within thirty (30) calendar days of purchase and the exam has not been started and no certificate of completion has been generated. Once the exam has been started, no refund is available, and the partial-refund tier in Section 2 does not apply to this product. No refund is available for exam expiration or for failure to pass the exam within the allotted attempts.

8.4 All Other Courses

The general policy in Sections 1 through 7 applies without modification to: Texas Defensive Driving; Florida Basic Driver Improvement (BDI); Florida Wireless Communications Device; Florida Traffic Law and Substance Abuse Education (TLSAE); Florida Driver Education and Traffic Safety (DETS); Idaho Defensive Driving; Michigan Basic Driver Improvement; Missouri Driver Improvement; and Pennsylvania Defensive Driving.

9. Questions

In short: We’d rather fix it than argue about it — reach out.
