Pennsylvania  ·  Eligibility, Explained

Am I eligible for a PA driver improvement course?

Short answer: Pennsylvania has no state traffic-school program to be eligible for. No course dismisses a PA ticket, and no course you can choose removes points. PennDOT has not approved our course for any of its programs. What PA does have is four situations. A course helps in two of them. Here’s how to tell which one is yours.

Two of the four aren’t our course — we’ll tell you up front

Four situations — which one is you?

Green is what our course is for. The other two aren’t — and we’d rather tell you now than refund you later.

Ask your judge — before you enroll PA law provides no course-based dismissal, so any leniency is your judge's discretionary call: case by case, never guaranteed. Permission comes first.

Pennsylvania has no state traffic-school program, so there is nothing to be eligible for. The real question is which of four situations is yours. Our 4-hour course fits two of them. The other two belong to PennDOT, and our course is not approved for either. Two rules sit behind that split. No PA law lets you pick a course to take points off. The only way to lower points on your own is 12 clean months in a row (75 Pa.C.S. §1537). The 55+ insurance discount is at least 5%, with your insurer setting the rest. It never applies to a course a court or agency told you to take (§1799.2). 75 Pa.C.S. §1538 verified

Eligibility questions, answered

Pennsylvania eligibility FAQ

Am I eligible for a Pennsylvania driver improvement course?

There is no state program to be eligible for. Pennsylvania has no course that dismisses a ticket. What matters is your situation. A judge may be willing to consider a course, so ask before you enroll. Your insurer may offer a discount, so call them first. If PennDOT ordered you to its Driver Improvement School, that is a separate, mandatory program. Our course does not count for it.

PennDOT sent me a Driver Improvement School letter. Is this that course?

No — and be careful here. At 6 points, PennDOT itself orders you to its Driver Improvement School. For a first accumulation, it offers a special written exam instead. That's a state-administered sanction. You complete the one PennDOT tells you to, within 30 days, or your license is suspended until you do. Our course can't satisfy a PennDOT order.

Can I volunteer for PennDOT's school to knock points off?

No. PennDOT is explicit: drivers may only attend Driver Improvement School when required — you can't request it. For a first 6-point accumulation, the exam removes 2 points and the school removes 4. But both are sanctions you're sent to, not options you elect.

I have a CDL. Can a course help my PA ticket?

Not on your record. Federal law (49 CFR 384.226) bars states from masking or diverting any CDL holder's traffic conviction, in any vehicle. So no course can keep a PA conviction off a commercial record. The course can still be worth it for an insurer discount or as a refresher. It just can't touch the record.

So when is this course actually worth buying?

Three cases. Your judge said yes to a course for your citation. Your insurer confirmed a discount. Or you want the 4-hour refresher on PA driving law. It's $24.95 all-in — 20-question open-book final, unlimited retakes, certificate the moment you pass. If none of those three cases fits, keep your money.
