Is the DETS course required for teens?Yes. Starting August 1, 2025, all new drivers ages 14–17 must complete the 6-hour DETS before applying for a Learner’s License in Florida. The older 4-hour TLSAE is no longer accepted for this age group.

What if I already completed TLSAE before August 1?TLSAE completions before August 1, 2025 are grandfathered in for one year. After that, DETS is required for all first-time teen drivers.
